Put me on my death bed right now and I would spend most of my time snivelling and trying to get sympathy. In between, if you were silly enough to ask, I would probably recount my life in journeys. Student debt to solvency, single to happily married, starting points, turning points, aspirations. You know, the big stuff. I might not mention which particular diet fads worked or didn't work. I may not remember that mistake I made at work which was not significant but for which I spent nearly an entire week mentally crippling myself. I would definitely not care whether on Tuesday 24 August 2003, someone had remembered to put the bins out.

And yet on a daily basis approximately 90% of my energy is ploughed into just those issues and the bigger picture is....well, a bit over pixelated.

This is fine, I reason. And perfectly rational. What is important however is not to let stuff I won't remember prevent me from finding the time to create the memories I will cherish.

And so....operation no regrets. Beginning with a travelling adventure. Eleven months, eleven counties, two backpacks, myself, my husband and the odd mosquito along for the ride.

Top Ten Memorable Moments in Australia

And now, as is traditional on a day when I will spend most of my time on a plane, (sampling the wines, food and films), here are my top ten memorable moments in Australia. In no particular order:

1) Catching sight of the Sydney Opera House for the first time suddenly realising where I was, how far away from home and how very, very lucky.

2) The opening moments of Madama Butterfly at the Sydney Opera House. I always get a swell of emotion at a theatre as the show opens, but all the more so in this case because I was actually sat in Sydney Opera House. Amazing. Or, as a very good friend so perfectly described it, "squeeeee!"

3) The time we spent with Dan, Elizabeth, Bella and Lucie Harver. All of it.

4) When a wild parrot flew down to perch, for quite some time, on my head. A wild parrot. Wild. On my head!

5) The 'two bikes and three surf boards' story at the brewery, and, at a separate brewery, the 'we do it by hand, just because' story whilst sipping my Willie Wonker style Bloody Mary flavoured beer.

6) The 'wash basin'  on the Great Ocean Road

7) Eating amazing breakfasts and becoming obsessed with 'smashed avocado' in Melbourne.

8) The night with the crazy beer club in St Kildas

9) Those first few days in Sydney, getting over a rather pleasant 'culture shock' after the rampaging traffic of South East Asia.

10) Going to the Food Market in Melbourne and buying a feast which included marscapone stuffed figs. Eating it in the park in the sunshine. This, darlings, is The Life.
